Here's a Make 'n Take I came up with for my Kids at Risk group. It's a Pot Pincher, the pot holder for people with opposable thumbs.
I made the pattern so the top part fit my hand, then curved the bottom over so it fit my thumb. You sandwich fabric, insulated cloth or batting, regular batting, fabric and fabric. On the fabric that makes the pockets, measure up from the outside of the thumb part 3 1/4 inches and cut across the fabric piece. Turn the cut pieces under 3/8 inch, press and stitch.
I put bias tape around the outside, but the kids will straight stitch or zig-zag around the outside edge a couple of times. Sounds more complicated than it is.
I like this because it fits, it bends, and I don't end up dipping part of it in the gravy, etc
